The tale behind the shelves, the shop, and an unreasonable number of estate sales.
Nostalgic on Morris opened with one simple idea: good design never goes out of style, no matter how many decades it spent in someone's basement. What began as Billy and Rodney's personal collection of mid-century furniture and estate-sale finds grew into a full storefront celebrating vintage craftsmanship, local art, and objects with a little history behind them.
We hunt through estate sales, auctions, and private collections across the Southeast to bring in pieces that are as functional as they are beautiful — teak mid century, hand-blown barware, American art pottery, and original art from Birmingham makers. Along the way we've become unofficial experts in other families' garage sale drama.
Every item in the shop is chosen by hand, inspected for wobble, and occasionally the subject of quiet disagreement in the back room. If it's on our shelves, someone here loved it enough to bring it home first — and hasn't quite let go since.
We chase pieces built to last — solid wood, real glass, real craftsmanship. Furniture that's already survived a few decades, several moves, and at least one questionable reupholstering has earned its spot in someone's living room, not a landfill.
We showcase Birmingham artists alongside our vintage finds, always, because a room needs at least one thing made this century. It's a two-way street — the shop gives local makers wall space, and their work keeps the whole place from feeling like a museum.
We take the furniture seriously. We do not take ourselves seriously. Expect dry commentary on your questionable childhood decor choices, delivered with genuine affection and zero judgment — mostly.
Stop by the shop on Morris Avenue — we love to talk vintage, and we're always happy to hear the story behind your grandmother's liquor cabinet.
